So You're Not English?!

You must be Welsh, and proud of being Welsh...:-)

[Sorry - you're not English, and you're not Welsh either?! Click here...;-)]

  • And you've got good reason to be! You belong to one of the oldest nations in the world,

  • with a history and language that go back almost two thousand years,

  • and a long, powerful tradition of singing, drinking, writing, loving and living!

Cymru - our country. Did you know...

  • in the nineteenth century, we had the highest literacy rate in the world?

  • with our huge supplies of slate and coal, we led the Industrial Revolution?

  • and our mediaeval poets are still studied today in major European universities?

So what went wrong?

Government. Over and over again, different levels of government have let our country down. It was at least understandable when it was England governing us - after all, they just wanted to get the best use they could out of our resources. Why should they want to make Cymru a better place to live, a stronger country?

It's more bitter now that we have an Assembly that is meant to put our needs first - and instead, all they do is look nervously towards Westminster, and follow Labour party policy like the lapdogs they are. They don't create any policies for Cymru - they can't, because the Labour party moves anyone who shows signs of being a policy maker straight to London. Welsh Labour has never been anything other than a vote-gathering machine.

You get the Government you deserve, right?

You've got to be joking!

Do we deserve:

  • To have the lowest GDP in the British Isles?

  • To have some of the highest levels of sickness and unemployment?

  • To see our house prices spiralling out of control until our young people can't afford to buy homes in their own communities?

  • To see our language used as a political weapon to frighten people into voting Labour?

  • To be working in low-paid, low-skilled jobs that we can lose at a moment's notice?

No. We deserve better than this.

But you can't change the Government...

and all the political parties are the same, anyway.

Yes and No. Sure, voting doesn't make much difference any more, everyone can see that.

Voting isn't the best way to make a difference. Lobbying is - that and taking matters into your own hands. You need good ideas (any ideas are better than what we're getting at the moment!), and you need to lobby government - not just once or twice, but over and over - and at the same time, you need to start building the alternatives.

That's where Cymuned comes in.

Cymuned means community. We were founded to push for quality jobs and affordable housing in the Fro Gymraeg (the Welsh-speaking parts of the country), but we've always been committed to the future of Cymru as a nation, and we've seen that many of our ideas for solving the housing crisis and the shortage of quality jobs in the Fro are every bit as relevant in the parts of our country where Welsh isn't the community language.

How can I make a difference?

From Môn to Merthyr, from Llanelli to Llanelwy, members of Cymuned are making a difference - in their local areas, and on a national basis.

We can show you how to strengthen your community against crazy house price inflation, and how to defend it against predatory foreign superstores - we've got a whole range of simple, practical strategies that can help you change the way things are. From humble stickers to online campaigns and business networks, we've got something that's right for everyone - give us a call, and we'll show you how to get started.
